On the face of it, plummets are a basic piece of tackle, but of the utmost importance and a vital piece of core tackle. Knowing how deep the water you’re fishing is, is perhaps one of the most important questions you need to answer early on in every session.Â
Once you have fished a venue a few times, you will start to get an idea of the depths at said venue, in which case your plummet will be used less, but getting those initial depths is of paramount importance.Â
Plummets come in all shapes and sizes, but as manufacturers have developed them further they have learnt which shapes and sizes work, and those that dont.Â
The classic bell shaped plummet, such as this rubberised one from Maver, are great because there shape doesnt allow them to sink into the silt. Rubber is prefered these days over lead due to environmental concerns over lead and scrapping of said lead.Â
The foam insert on this particular plummet allows for seemless hook-up, ensuring you dont lose your plummet in the margins at the outset of your session!
